Video Management Software (VMS)
Once a site grows past sixteen cameras, or once the customer wants to integrate CCTV with access control, video analytics, or multiple sites, an NVR is no longer the right answer. Video Management Software (VMS) takes the recorder logic off a fixed appliance and onto a server (or virtualised server farm) where it can scale to thousands of cameras, federate across sites, and expose an API for integration. This module covers the introduction every installer needs.
What this module covers
The lessons cover the high-end VMS landscape (Milestone XProtect, Genetec Security Center, Avigilon, Hikvision HikCentral, IC RealTime Smart ICRSS), the common architecture pattern (recording server, management server, mobile server, client workstations), the difference between camera licence and channel licence pricing, and live walkthroughs of two products: Smart ICRSS installation and setup, and Hikvision iVMS-4200 installation and setup.
Who it is for
Installers being asked to quote multi-site or larger systems, IT engineers tasked with running a VMS on customer infrastructure, and CCTV technicians who want a structured introduction before they pursue Milestone Certified Integration Technician (MCIT) or Genetec equivalent certifications.
Why it matters
The single biggest VMS deployment mistake is under-specifying the server hardware. A Milestone Recording Server fed by twenty 4MP H.265 cameras at 25 fps will saturate a low-end NUC long before it touches the video disk. Real deployments need the right CPU, the right NIC, the right write cache on the storage, and headroom for forensic search. This module starts that conversation in plain language so you know what the questions are when an architect asks them.
